How to Record Voice in Your Browser
Record a microphone take in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari, download the real format your browser writes, and know the 30-minute limit.
You are capturing a new take, not editing a file
Browser voice recording means the page asks for the microphone, stores a blob in memory, then lets you download it. It is not the same as trimming an MP3 you already have.
Use Voice Recorder for a new take. Use Audio Cutter after download if you need to cut silence.
Allow the mic once, then watch the timer
Click Start so the permission prompt happens on a real gesture. Keep the tab in the foreground on phones. The timer is wall-clock time while recording; pause (when the browser offers it) does not count.
- Chrome and Edge usually download WebM (Opus).
- Safari often downloads MP4. That is still a valid recording, not a broken MP3.
- One take is capped at 30 minutes. The page warns at one minute left and stops cleanly.
After you have a file
Merge several takes with Audio Merger. Pull sound out of a video with Extract Audio from Video instead of re-recording a soundtrack that already exists.
Frequently asked questions
- Why isn’t the download an MP3?
- Browsers record the containers they implement in MediaRecorder. Relabeling WebM as .mp3 would produce a file that many players reject. Convert later if you truly need MP3.
