How to Extract Audio from Video (MP4 to MP3)

Save the soundtrack from a local MP4, WebM, or MOV file as MP3, WAV, or M4A in your browser — without uploading the video.

You need the video file, not a streaming page

Extracting audio means reading an audio track that already exists inside a video file. It is not a YouTube downloader and it cannot bypass DRM.

Use Extract Audio from Video for a local MP4, WebM, MOV, or similar file. Processing stays in the browser.

Pick the track and the output format

Some files have more than one audio stream (commentary, a second language). Choose the track you want. Then pick MP3 for sharing, M4A/AAC for Apple-friendly files, or WAV/FLAC when you need lossless.

  • A higher MP3 bitrate cannot restore poor source audio.
  • If the video has no audio stream, extraction is disabled — the tool will not invent silence and call it a soundtrack.
  • After you have an audio file, trim it with the Audio Cutter.

Mute or replace instead of extract

If you want a quiet video, or a new soundtrack on the same picture, use Remove or Replace Video Audio instead of extracting.

Frequently asked questions

Is MP4 to MP3 the same as extracting audio?
Usually yes: you decode or copy the audio track from an MP4 container and encode or wrap it as MP3. The picture is discarded.
