- What is a BMI calculator?
- A BMI calculator estimates body mass index from height and weight: kg ÷ (height in metres)². This page also shows a WHO (or optional Asian/India) category and a healthy weight range for the entered height.
- What formula and conversions do you use?
- Metric BMI = weight_kg / (height_m)², rounded to one decimal. Imperial uses 1 in = 2.54 cm and 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg.
- What is the difference between WHO and Asian/India cutoffs?
- WHO adult bands: underweight < 18.5, normal 18.5–24.9, overweight 25–29.9, obese ≥ 30. Asian/India screening often treats overweight from 23 and obese from 25. That toggle is a convention, not ToolShelf medical advice.
- Is this a diagnosis?
- No. BMI is a screening number for adults. It is not a clinic result, not for children or pregnancy, and not a body-fat measurement.
- Can I calculate calories or BMR here?
- Yes. Calorie / BMR mode uses the same height and weight plus age, sex, and activity. BMR is Mifflin-St Jeor; TDEE = BMR × activity. Surplus/deficit rows are rough planning only.
- Does my height or weight leave the browser?
- No. Math is local. A draft can stay in this browser’s local storage so refresh does not wipe the job.
