Bulk Barcode Generator
This page turns a spreadsheet-style CSV into many 1D barcodes in one pass. It is for product lists, warehouse SKUs, and internal IDs—not for drawing a single code by hand. For one symbol at a time, use the Barcode Generator.
Parsing, format checks, image rendering, ZIP packaging, and label printing all run locally. Invalid rows are reported instead of being skipped in silence.
How to Generate Barcodes from CSV
- 1Prepare a CSV with a header row and one column of identifiers.
- 2Upload the file or paste the CSV, then load it.
- 3Select the barcode column. A name column is optional for labels.
- 4Choose a barcode format that matches the data and your scanners.
- 5Review validation: valid rows, invalid rows, and duplicate values.
- 6Generate barcodes, then download a ZIP or print A4 labels.
CSV Format
Use a first row of column names. Quoted fields may contain commas. UTF-8 is supported, including a leading BOM. Empty barcode cells are invalid. You can build a CSV from JSON with the JSON to CSV Converter, then load that file here.
product_id,product_name,price 890123456789,Product A,199 890123456790,Product B,299 890123456791,Product C,499
Download Sample CSV on the tool for the same structure. Those product IDs are examples for Code 128-style internal codes, not registered retail GTINs.
Supported Barcode Formats
- Code 128 — printable ASCII; a practical default for SKUs and internal IDs.
- Code 39 — uppercase letters, digits, space, and - . $ / + %.
- EAN-13 — 13 numeric digits with a valid check digit.
- EAN-8 — 8 numeric digits with a valid check digit.
- UPC-A — 12 numeric digits with a valid check digit.
- ITF — even count of digits (Interleaved 2 of 5).
- ITF-14 — 14 digits including a GS1-style check digit.
- Codabar — digits and a small symbol set, optional A–D start/stop.
Print Barcode Labels
Print Labels fills A4 pages with a grid of barcodes. Start with 1, 2, or 3 columns, then adjust label size and gaps if needed. If the grid no longer fits the printable A4 area, a warning appears before you print. The print stylesheet hides upload controls, settings, and navigation so only labels are sent to the printer.
Is My CSV Uploaded?
No. After this page has loaded, you can disconnect from the network and still parse a local CSV, validate rows, generate symbols, build a ZIP, and print. Downloads use the browser Blob API. CSV contents are not stored in localStorage and are not placed in the page URL.
Limitations
Maximum 5,000 data rows and 5 MB per CSV. Excel .xlsx files are not accepted—export CSV first. Check digits are not auto-applied in bulk. ZIP of thousands of PNGs can take time; SVG is lighter. This is not a GS1 registration service. For URLs and 2D codes, use the QR Code Generator. For compressing exported images, see the Image Compressor. For document PDFs, use Word to PDF.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a bulk barcode generator?
- A bulk barcode generator creates many 1D barcodes from a list of values, typically a CSV of product IDs or SKUs, instead of typing one code at a time.
- Can I generate barcodes from CSV?
- Yes. Upload a .csv file or paste CSV text, choose the column that holds barcode values, pick a format, then generate. Toolshelf parses and encodes that data in your browser.
- How many barcodes can I generate?
- This page is built for hundreds to thousands of rows. It accepts up to 5,000 data rows in one CSV. Very large files may be slower on phones or low-memory devices; split the file if the tab becomes sluggish.
- Can I generate 1,000 barcodes?
- Yes. A 1,000-row CSV is a normal job for this tool. Validation runs first so invalid rows are listed; valid rows can still be exported.
- Can I download barcodes as ZIP?
- Yes. Download ZIP builds a local archive with one PNG or SVG file per valid barcode, plus a manifest CSV. Nothing is uploaded to create the archive.
- Can I print barcode labels?
- Yes. Print Labels lays barcodes out on A4 pages using 1-, 2-, or 3-column presets, or a custom grid. The print view hides the rest of the page. Scan a test sheet before printing a full run.
- Which barcode formats are supported?
- The same formats as the single Barcode Generator: Code 128, Code 39, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, ITF, ITF-14, and Codabar. Each row is checked against the format you select. Invalid rows are not drawn as if they were valid.
- Can I use product IDs or SKUs?
- Yes, when you choose Code 128 (printable ASCII) or Code 39 (uppercase letters, digits, and a small symbol set). Point the barcode column at product_id, sku, or a similar header. Retail EAN/UPC numbers still need the correct length and check digit.
- Does the CSV get uploaded to a server?
- No. The file is read with the browser File API. Parsing, validation, barcode drawing, ZIP creation, and printing all stay on your device. This page does not send CSV contents to analytics.
- Can I generate EAN-13 barcodes?
- Yes, if each value is a valid 13-digit EAN-13 including the check digit. Twelve-digit values are flagged so you can fix them; this bulk tool does not silently add a check digit.
- Can I generate UPC barcodes?
- Yes. UPC-A requires a valid 12-digit number including the check digit. Rows that fail length or checksum checks are listed in the error table and omitted from the ZIP.
- Can I generate Code 128 barcodes?
- Yes. Code 128 is the default and accepts printable ASCII, which covers many internal SKUs and IDs. Unicode product names cannot be encoded in Code 128; keep those in the optional label column.
- Can I use this for inventory?
- You can generate labels from an inventory CSV for internal scanning. This tool does not connect to warehouse software, does not register GS1 numbers, and does not track stock.
- Do I need an account to use the bulk barcode generator?
- No. It runs in your browser with no account. You can generate and download barcodes from this page without signing up.
CSV to barcodes, not one code at a time
Use bulk generation when you have a spreadsheet of SKUs, serials, or invoice numbers. One column is the payload; extra columns can label files. For a single value, use the ordinary barcode generator instead.
- CSV upload or paste — conversion runs in the browser.
- Code 128 for mixed text; EAN-13/UPC only when the digits are valid.
- ZIP download for print shops and packing lines.
Limitations
- Invalid rows for a given symbology should be fixed, not forced.
- Huge CSVs can slow or exhaust a browser tab — split the file.
- This is not a product database or label printer driver.
