How to Convert MP4 to GIF Online
Turn a short MP4 clip into a looping GIF in your browser. Keep duration, width, and FPS modest so the file stays usable.
GIFs are for short loops, not full videos
GIF stores frames with a limited palette. A 30-second 1080p MP4 can become a huge, muddy GIF. Convert a few seconds, not the whole film.
The Video to GIF Converter runs in your browser. It does not import YouTube URLs.
Steps that keep the GIF small
Lower width and FPS before you worry about “quality” presets.
- If you only need part of the file, trim first with the Video Cutter, or set start and end in the GIF tool.
- Start around 10–15 FPS and a width of 480px or less for chat and docs.
- Preview the loop. If banding is ugly, raise quality slightly — but expect a larger file.
- Download the GIF locally. Nothing is uploaded to Toolshelf for conversion.
Why the GIF can be larger than the MP4
H.264 compresses motion much more efficiently than GIF. A short GIF is still often bigger than the same seconds of MP4. That is a format limit, not a bug.
