How to Convert Word to PDF in Your Browser
Turn a .docx file into a PDF without installing Word. Use browser conversion for everyday docs; use desktop Save as PDF when layout must be pixel-perfect.
DOCX in, PDF out
Modern Word files are .docx (Office Open XML). A converter reads that package, lays out pages, and writes a PDF you can email or upload to a portal.
On Toolshelf, the Word to PDF Converter defaults to private browser mode: the file is not uploaded unless you explicitly use a high-fidelity server option when it is available.
- Add up to five .docx files (size limits are shown on the tool page).
- Convert one row or convert all.
- Download each PDF or download all successful results.
- Legacy
.docbinary files are not supported — Save As .docx in Word or LibreOffice first.
When the PDF will not match Word exactly
Headings, lists, tables, and images usually survive. Floating shapes, SmartArt, equations, and uncommon fonts may shift. For contracts where every millimetre matters, use Word or LibreOffice “Save as PDF”, or the browser Print / Save as PDF path on the tool page.
Searchable text
A real conversion keeps a text layer so you can search and copy. A scan saved as PDF is a picture unless OCR was applied — this tool converts Word documents, not photos of pages.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the Word file uploaded?
- In the default private mode, no. Optional high-fidelity conversion, only if Toolshelf has its own converter configured, sends the file to Toolshelf over HTTPS and deletes it after processing. The page explains which mode you are using.
